John F. Kennedy was elected president of the United States in 1961. During the Civil Rights Movement, african americans in the south were denied the right to vote, barred from public facilities, subjected to insults or violence and could not expect justice from the courts. In the North, the african american population faced discrimination in housing, employment, education, etc,. The Civil Rights movement made important progress and change.

In the election of 1960, more than seventy percent of african americans voted for Kennedy. After his presidential inauguration he eventually discussed a world wide struggle to all americans. On June 11, 1963 Kennedy gave a Civil Rights Address regarding the struggles of being an african american. He addresses the dispute that this is a national problem that many blacks wish to be free. John F. Kennedy hopes everyone enjoys the privileges to be an american. There should be equal services and those african americans should have the opportunities to attain any public institution. During his address he says "The nation will not be free until every citizen is free."
John F. Kennedy had made vast progress that helped shape outcome of the Civil Rights movement. Although his great efforts, Kennedy was assassinated as he rode in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas , Texas.
